Oral hygiene and Preventative care

Poor oral hygiene can lead to a variety of dental and medical problems including gingivitis (gum disease), oral infection, heart disease, strokes and periodontitis (inflammation of the gums and supporting tissues of the teeth). That's why it's important to maintain good oral hygiene and undergo a dental assessment every six-twelve months to aim to prevent these problems.

Many people assume that regular dental assessments are just a standard clean to keep your teeth and gums in shape. The reality is that they provide an opportunity to detect any early signs of problems.

A simple filling at the right time or identifying a developing cavity early could spare you from having a root canal treatment or tooth extraction in the future. These more complicated dental procedures are often time consuming and therefore sometimes costly. They can often simply be avoided by having biannual dental assessments.

Good oral hygiene includes brushing your teeth and gums twice a day, flossing your teeth, cleaning your tongue, and rinsing your mouth with a reputable antibacterial mouthwash daily. A dental assessment every six months is an ideal time for your dental practitioner to professionally clean your teeth and remove any tartar or plaque build-up.
